"The Artist exists because the world is not perfect."
From all the compulsive behaviors, the need to create is probably not the worst to suffer from. For suffering it is. You must do it, without it something is largely missing, the feeling of emptiness is overwhelming and sometimes you use excuses and other addictions to feel the void. Yes, excuses can be addictive and comforting, just like any other ego trap on the way. It's there to protect you. Since you are useless and do nothing, you don't have to face the painful process of learning and producing piles and piles of far-from-perfect art. When finally you break the vicious circle of self pity and self sabotage, it brings you a brief relief until you return to shadows of despair. For a moment you feel alive. Then you get angry. Did you let your soul speak? The joy of creation, can it exist without the value judgement? Can you exist without it? But you continue, push through regardless, because you have no choice. Create or die.
