Paris. Paris had a special place in my heart for years. It all started when my dear brother went to high school. It was a well reputed bilingual school with French language. We were supposed to attend the well reputed institutions in order to secure our future and so on. He went there and me as a little sister followed his footsteps shortly after. I remembered the pictures my brother took in Paris and couldn’t wait to go and visit. It was breathtaking to see the images you only knew from the pictures and postcards in the real life. It looked…exactly the same! I think I was 13 when I first went on a school trip to Paris. I promised myself that one day I will live there. In the little room on the top floor, living my artistic Parisian life.
You can’t deny Paris it’s beauty. Years after I keep falling in love with this city over and over. It’s not always an easy love. Especially when you have zero money, you’re lonely and you’re squatting on couches of people who are trying to be a little too friendly.
Not everything in this city is croissants and café with the view on la tour Eiffel. There is a lot of dodgy corners especially in some areas. Poverty, metro stations that stink of piss and unfortunate sick people who talk to themselves and will scare you when you’re going back home late. Tusks of disappointment, eagerness to pick up queues arguments and catcalling are not my favorite parts of Parisian reality. But you get used to it and it's for you to decide what to focus on and how to deal with less pretty - but not less real - views.
For some reason, no matter how much I enjoy walking the streets of Paris and exploring new quarters, I never felt quite at home here. It’s always just a point of recollection, a stop before a new adventure. I can’t imagine myself settling here but then, I don’t really imagine settling anywhere right now. There is something about this place, maybe a lot of weird memories, that I would like to leave behind at some point and just coming back for melancholy trips. I feel like changing the scenery for something fresh and new. But first! Let's film.
I love Paris. No matter how much of it you’ve seen, there is always more to discover, round every corner. You might be walking the same street every day twice and only 6 months after you will notice a surprising detail. How come I haven’t seen it before? Are you sure it was here all this time? Paris is a magic bag full of tricks. You just have to be willing to take it all in. Don’t forget to look up!
Until next time,
